Yes, she’s human so of course this happens. It doesn’t happen often but I remember one time after we started back f2f in June 2020…I was 1 of only 3 clients she was seeing f2f then so she often was meeting me at her office after being at home doing online therapy. One day she was wearing a T-shirt that said Empowered Women empower women…she was dressed rather casually…she did have on “nicer” jeans and was wearing a cardigan over her shirt but still slightly more casual than usual. i”m a nanny and sometimes come to session with food, kid’s fluids (snot, baby spit up…nothing outright horrid or I’d change before I went to session)….on my shirts…..I wear tshirts and shorts or jeans….sweatshirts….leggings….comfortable clothes! So I’m always Uber casual! So anyway as we’re walking back to her office I tell her I really like her shirt….and she says,” Oh thank you. Yeah…I was about to leave my house to come here and I thought maybe I should change…then I thought, no I’m just seeing C and she won’t care what I’m wearing.” At first I wasn’t sure how to take that….like you don’t want to look nice for me?!? She didn’t mean it at all how I took it. I think she just meant we’d be seeing each other for over 4 years…we have a wonderful TR, it wasn’t going to effect me horribly if she showed up slightly more casual than usual. Let’s face it…3 months into the Official Maryland Terrapins 2022 Duke’s Mayo Bowl Shirt and I will buy this pandemic I would have completely understood if she’d showed up in her pj’s!! (I did a few times! And I even did that when I came for a session 10 days after a major surgery!). Now I can look at that statement she made and it actually means something different to me…it makes me really that much more secure in my TR with her because she feels that comfortable with me.
