Median rent in SF prior to the pandemic was over $3000. Since the pandemic, rents have fallen to the affordable rate of $2675 for a one bedroom. Third, other places like to dump their homeless on us. Hawaii used to have a program where, if the person was from the mainland, the homeless were offered free airfare to anywhere they wanted to go. San Francisco became a popular choice, most likely because the Hawaiian social services people talked up how good it was to be homeless in San Francisco with its programs and weather than say, Idaho. Eventually, there was a court case where San Francisco sued Hawaii and won. Officially, the program was supposed to have been stopped but maybe it wasnt until the Pandemic hit. Other places were rumored to give bus tickets to San Francisco. Which leads to the fourth reason.
